Heather Clark Wins World Title in Peru
Lizzy teamrider Heather Clark (Port Shepstone, South Africa). Heather beat Rocio Larranaga (Peru), Sandra English (Australia) and Brigitte Mayer (Brazil) in the final to take the title convincingly. One of the standout surfers of the event, the former World Tour surfer and Hawaiian Triple Crown winner ended the event with the four highest heat tallies and five highest single ride scores, dominating the women's division.
This result adds to an illustrious start to 2008 for South Africa's most decorated woman's surfer, in February Heather was honored for her 2007 PST win at the South African Surfing Awards and in March she won the Roxy Invitational Mozambique as well as the Coppa Del Volcom held in Durban.
"I'm absolutely ecstatic," Clark said. "In 2003 I was in contention for the title on the World Tour, so it's always been my dream to win a world title. I'm over the moon."
Heather's win helped the South African team take their second consecutive ISA World Masters team title, ahead of 17 other countries including surfing powerhouses Australia and Brazil.
